Dylan will be in the 8K points race tonight, and Cody finishes with the scratch race.

Trexlertown, Pa. (July 15, 2006) —The 2006 USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships concluded on Saturday as the final seven national titles of the week were claimed at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome.
In the morning session, the four-man Tri-State Velo team pursuit squad of Cody O’Reilly (Santa Barbara, Calif./Echelon Santa Barbara), Taylor Brown (Fleetwood, Pa./Tri-State Velo), Jackie Simes (Trexlertown, Pa./Tri-State Velo) and Rodney Santiago (Allentown, Pa./CCG) posted a winning time of 4:49.346 in the junior men’s 17-18 four-kilometer individual pursuit. The foursome bested the ACT team of David Espinoza (Wellington, Fla./JC Investors), Barry Miller (Larchmont, N.Y./ACT), Peter Salon (Brooklyn, N.Y./GS Mengoni) and Nik Reinert (Mertztown, Pa./Team Fuji) by 1.5 seconds to take home the national title and a stars-and-stripes jersey. After losing four seconds to the ACT squad in the opening two kilometers, the Tri-State Velo team battled back and benefited from a final-lap surge to clinch the title.
In the bronze medal ride, Team Vortex, comprised of Andrew Salute (Zionsville, Pa./Vortex), Peter Muto (Fogelsville, Pa./Vortex)), Matt Nudy (Fleetwood, Pa./Vortex) and Scott Shellhammer (Mertztown, Pa./Vortex) clocked a 5:04.955 to take the bronze medal ahead of the Pista Elite team of Drew Bercaw (North Canton, Ohio/Pista Elite), Jakob Smith (Berea, Ohio/Pista Elite), Erick Madis (Hudson, Ohio/Pista Elite) and Iggy Silva (San Diego, Calif./Eddy B. Cycling).
In the junior men’s team sprint, the ‘Kids from East’ squad of Matthew Fox (Highland Park, Ill./Hayes on Track), Justin Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Major Motion) and David Espinoza set the fastest qualifying time, turning in a 1:06.445 to earn a spot in the gold medal final. Once there, they handily defeated the second-seeded ACT team of Gordon Parola (Huntington Station, N.Y./ACT), Luke Cavender (Troy, Mich./Wolverine-Fraser) and Barry Miller. The winning mark was 1:07.139 compared to ACT’s 1:13.454.

The bronze medal match ended with the Liberty Cycles team of Taylor Kahl (West Milford, N.J./Liberty), Chris Stern (West Milford, N.J./Liberty), and Stephen Chiselko (Warren, N.J./Liberty) posting a time of 1:13.967 to beat the Alkek team of Alan Ting (Spring, Texas/Northwest Cycling), Eric Rasche (Cypress, Texas/Northwest Cycling) and Parker Craddock (Houston, Texas/Northwest Cycling) which posted a 1:14.012.
The junior women’s team sprint saw youngsters Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./Major Motion) and Colleen Hayduk (Kutztown, Pa./Team Fuji-Salamander) take the top seed and roll to victory in the final with a time of 50.875 over the second-seeded NWCC team of Cristin Walker (Houston, Texas/Northwest Cycling) and Amanda Boursaw (Stanwood, Wash./Gregg’s-Trek) who posted a time of 51.489.
The junior men’s 17-18 scratch race field put on a clinic for the younger riders as they barreled around the track finishing in a time of 12:37.890. The race yielded a win for Shane Kline (Bally, Pa./Team Fuji-Salamander) as he was able to fend off silver medalist Cody O’Reilly in the final sprint to the finish. Earlier in the race, 12 riders were able to make the definitive break with 16 laps remaining. When the riders got away, Jackie Simes (Trexlertown, Pa./Tri-State Velo) was not in the move, but a strong late-race allowed him to chase on and eventually earn the bronze medal.
Only four riders began the junior women’s 17-18 eight-kilometer points race, but that didn’t stop an aggressive attack-filled effort by Lauren Shirock (Emmaus, Pa./South Mountain Cycles) who eventually placed second with 12 points behind the strong sprinting of Catherine Fiedler (Long Beach, Ca./Home Depot Center) who earned 15 points to take the gold medal. The race for third came down to the final sprint with Rachelle Hobson (Milwaukie, Ore./Forza Jet Velo) narrowly edging out Amara Boursaw (Stanwood, Wash./Gregg’s-Trek), 9 points to 8 respectively.
The junior women’s 15-16 10-kilometer points race was the first race of the evening to offer up a coveted jersey. Colleen Gulick (Spring City, Pa.) and Colleen Hayduk, both Team Fuji-Salamander riders, controlled the entire race taking nearly every sprint between the two. Gulick proved victorious in the end as she scored 18 points over Hayduk’s 11. Mandy Marquardt (Plantation, Fla.,/ACT) placed third with seven points.
In the junior men’s 15-16 15-kilometer points race Epes Harris (Macungie, Pa./East Coast Velo) stole the show in the final sprint winning the race with 14 points over Jacob Rathe (Portland, Ore./BBC) who was unable to score on the last lap and ended with 13 points. Iggy Silva (San Diego, Calif./Eddie B Cycling) led most of the way, but was unable to hold on, eventually earning bronze with 12 points.
The junior 15-16 points races were the final events factored into the overall omnium standings as Hayduk and Daniel Walker (Houston, Texas/Northwest Cycling Club) solidified overall national titles in that age category.
