To All Echelon Riders and Everyone!
July 23: We are reclaiming our traditional Saturday morning club ride! Leaving from Vieja Valley School parking lot at 8:30 am, this classic Santa Barbara ride winds around and through and over Hope Ranch, then goes up La Cumbre to Foothill, turns left and heads out to Glen Annie -- with a sprint finish at the end of that road (about 1.75 miles up Glen Annie). The group then rides back down to Cathedral Oaks; some may call it quits there, others will head out Cathedral Oaks to Hollister and head back into town via the bike path. There is always a group that continues up the 101, stopping at El Capitan Canyon for refreshments and then on up to beautiful Refugio Canyon (mostly unscathed from the Sherpa fire) to our turnaround at the Circle Bar B Ranch. (One also could easily turn around at El Cap, or Dos Pueblos Ranch if pressed for time.)
Regroups: The first hill after we leave Vieja Valley, then at the top of Hope Ranch (Estrella & Cresta), then at the top of La Cumbre. The group continuing north will regroup at Cathedral Oaks and Calle Real and again at El Capitan Canyon.
This is a non-drop ride! There are plenty of regroups and though there likely will be a fast group, we’ll be sure that no one loses their way through the twisty parts of Hope Ranch. The ride is only about 22 miles from Vieja Valley to C.O./Hollister; it’s as long or short as you want it to be.
If you’ve never done this ride come out and discover a great route; if you’ve done it in the past come and show your Echelon colors in a friendly, fun, safe and beautiful ride! All are invited! (Needless to say, helmets are required.)
